The two most common forms of digital books are ebooks and audiobooks, both of which we publish and distribute. To a reader, having the option to buy a new title in one of three formats (book, ebook or audiobook) is now almost taken for granted, so we encourage our authors to view digital books as just another format that they should make available to their readers. Some authors like to release an ebook in advance of the book, to test the audience reaction, while others publish both formats simultaneously. Either way, our years of expertise in publishing will help you make the right choice for you.
We help authors with all aspects of ebook production and distribution, such as ebook creation to the ePub format, copy editing, cover design, ISBN assignment, data management and distribution to retailers worldwide. Some authors need our assistance with all elements of ebook publishing, in which case our Full Ebook Publishing and Distribution service is the most appropriate; others only need our help with certain elements of publishing an ebook, in which case they can choose only those services they need. We offer authors the flexibility to choose exactly what services they need:
We offer a high-quality, lower-cost audiobook publishing and distribution service to help authors access the growing audiobook market. Historically, this market has proven difficult to enter due to the high cost of production and the technical challenges that creating an audiobook poses, but our audiobook service gives access to professional actors and sound engineers, create files to meet the complex technical requirements demanded by audiobook retailers. Our audiobooks are sold via a wide range of sellers and streaming services, including Audible, Amazon, Apple, Spotify, YouTube, Deezer, Google Play, Kobo, Audiobooks.com and Barnes & Noble US.
Producing an audiobook is a complex process that, if not done correctly, can result in a poor quality end product. The process we go through ensures that that does not happen with our author’s audiobooks…
The cost of audiobook production is determined by the length of time it takes to record a book, and that is influenced by the word count. We base our production costs on a book's word count as follows:
We usually ask to see a copy of your book first, so that we can give an accurate quotation to you of the audiobook production costs.
The next step is to choose an actor. We offer a range of vocal talents and ask you to choose which you feel would be best to narrate your book. To aid the recording process, we ask you to fill in a questionnaire briefing the narrator on things they need to know – such as accents or pronunciation.
The recording of an audiobook takes place over a few sessions. Once complete, a copy is sent to you for checking – and we allow up to an hour of studio time for re-recording passages, if necessary. While recording takes place, we create your audiobook cover to the specifications needed by retailers. Overall, the production process usually takes around six weeks, but this can depend on studio and actor availability.
For authors who wish to distribute and sell their audiobooks themselves, that is the end of the process. Most, however, ask us to distribute their audiobook to retailers worldwide on their behalf.
We distribute through all the major players in the audio distribution market, bringing new retailers online as needed.
We offer two distribution options:
We make a one-off charge of £40 for distributing an audiobook through Audible, Amazon and Apple for up to two years. A royalty rate of 40% of the cover price (set by retailers) is paid; we deduct a commission of 15% of the net receipts on sales made.
We make a one-off charge of £100 for distributing an audiobook through our extended retailer network (Audible, Amazon, Apple, Spotify, YouTube, Deezer, Google Play, Kobo, Audiobooks.com and Barnes & Noble US) for up to two years. A royalty rate of 35% of the cover price is paid; we deduct a commission of 15% of the net receipts on sales made. We assign your audiobook an ISBN and disseminate metadata to retailers.
For both of the above services, we add a sample of the audiobook to our website and provide information on marketing that an author can carry out themselves.
