Following the funeral of Lady Barbara Maitland, family and friends gather at her home, Stanbourne Place. Paul Beresford and Julia are now married, Chris and Tanya have just returned from a honeymoon in Wyoming.
An American guest seems totally out of place and subsequent events confirm suspicions that he is a character not to be trusted. The next few days are full of incident and excitement as the family seek to cope with the crisis and plan for a better future.
