The story of the 5o5 is a 70 year plus narrative that charts not just the most significant performance dinghy design, but it is also a record of the development of the sport of dinghy racing worldwide.
The story might start in the UK, but it will soon take us right around the world, to South America and then to Australia, with the 5o5 being the first time a major sailing championship has made it down into the Southern hemisphere.
The 5o5 is no unique in its shape, so radical that it has never been copied, nor bettered. It would have been easy to write the story of the book, the 5o5 in the UK, but this is truly an international tale that charts the growth of the boat and in the way it has influence our sport for nearly 1970s years.
The book will be launched at Cork, in Southern Ireland at the 2022 World Championships, at the Royal Cork Yacht Club, the world’s oldest yacht club
